On August 1st we started the day off with a walk around the Niagara Falls town and a ride on a ferris wheel which gave us great views. Afterwards, we had a fun lunch at Rainforest Cafe. We walked back to the hotel for a swim in the pool and finished our evening with a Hibachi style dinner. We did not stay out late that evening because all four of us were extremely exhausted!
We drove back home on August 2nd and I got my hair cut on August 3rd. I was happy that my hair had finally grown long enough to donate! Sophia started her week-long princess camp at her dance studio on August 10th. She loved going every morning for a few hours since she got to dance, have snacks, and do lots of craft projects.
We celebrated Joe's 32nd birthday on August 11th because he had a night flight on August 12th. His celebration was just a quiet night at home where we had dinner, cake, and gave him presents.
In late July both my Pepere and my Grandma fell and broke their hips (on the same day, no less!). By mid August my Pepere was in an acute rehab facility but my Grandma had become very sick. On August 14th Joe, the kids, and I drove to Connecticut so that I could spend some time with my Mom, Aunts, and cousins as well as say my good-byes to Grandma. It was a very somber trip but I was glad to be living close enough where I could make the trip to see her. Before we left town on August 15th we stopped by to see my Pepere and Memere at the rehab facility. They were shocked and happy to see us all.
I turned 31 on August 16th. Joe made us a big pancake breakfast and then I was spoiled with lots of gifts from him and the kids. We attended church later that morning and then had lunch together. In the early afternoon, Joe took me to a Maroon 5 concert in Atlantic City which was opened by Nick Jonas. The concert was on the beach so the sea breeze kept us cool on such a hot summer day. On the ride back home my Mom called me to tell me that my Grandma had passed away that evening.
Joe and I had a special day date for our 8th wedding anniversary on August 18th...we had an ultrasound to see Baby #3! We got some great pictures of his/her face and we learned that the baby looked very healthy. The ultrasound technician wrote down the baby's gender in an envelope for Joe to see later since he agreed to keep the gender a secret. That day was also a big day because we started potty training Tyler!
On August 20th Joe and I celebrated our anniversary again by going out to dinner at Capital Grille. The food was amazing and the company was even better, of course!
We drove back to Connecticut on August 21st for my Grandma's wake. Her funeral mass was in the morning on August 22nd followed by a short grave side ceremony. We celebrated her life with a lunch reception before we drove back home.
Joe left for a 9 day trip on August 25th. On August 27th I went to a Pre-K orientation meeting for parents and learned that Sophia would be in Ms. Perkins' class. By August 29th, Tyler had his first full day of being in big boy undies without having an accident! What a wonderful way to end the month that was!
