February 2015

The first part of February was pretty calm.  We enjoyed watching the Superbowl at the Rappa's house on February 1st.  The rest of the week was quiet until Tyler started coughing early in the morning of February 8th.  I took him to the local ER and he was given a nebulizer treatment for croup.  After an hour of observation, we were on our way home...what a relief to have a quick visit!

On February 13th Joe and I took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese.  Sophia was Joe's Valentine and Tyler was mine :)  We split a large pizza and some coins to play the arcade games.  It was pretty loud and hectic in there which scared Sophia at first but it didn't seem to bother her for too long.

With the pending snow storm, several flights out of Boston had been canceled.  Evan, Erin, and the girls drove down to our house on February 14th since their original flight to Florida was canceled.  We had a fun evening together then woke up early on February 15th to catch our flight out of Philly.  After landing in Orlando we drove to Melbourne, checked into our condo on the beach, then went to the Wotton's house for dinner!  It was an amazing yet exhausting day!

The weather was perfect for a couple beach days on February 16th and 17th.  We spent our time walking on the beach, running in the water, playing frisbee, and building sandcastles.  Since the weather started to cool down, we went to the Brevard Zoo on February 18th.  We saw all kinds of animals and got to feed giraffes and birds!  February 19th was very cold so we decided to spend our day having brunch then going to the mall.  Joe, Sophia, Evan, and Ava went to see Paddington Bear while the rest of us went shopping (Erin and I even got pedicures!!).  That evening Aunt Chris and Rebekah came to visit!  We were all super surprised to see Rebekah since she lives in Oregon and we haven't seen her for a long time.  It was so amazing to talk and laugh with her again :)

We drove up to the Kennedy Space Center on February 20th.  Joe, Sophia, Tyler, and I went on a guided bus tour and got to see several launch pads and even some wildlife!  That evening we went over to the Wotton's house for another wonderful meal/party!  So many of our family friends from the area came to visit--we got to see Erica and met Aaron, Riley, and Harper.  Of course we loved spending time with Amanda, Ethan, Tom, Aunt Kathy, and the rest of the gang!  We are blessed with so many friends and family!

Evan, Erin, and the girls flew out of Orlando on February 21st.  The rest of the Lagasse Family drove to Tampa to meet up with Aunt Carlena, Tracy, Aunt Chris, Rebekah, and Grandma for lunch!  We went to a delicious sandwich shop and we enjoyed having some more quality family time.  After lunch, Joe, Amanda, and I went to pick up our race bibs at the Gasparilla Half Marathon Expo.  There were several vendors and we even found our names on a banner (find pic below!).  Once that was taken care of and we checked into our hotel room, we went over to Erica and Aaron's house for our delicious pasta dinner.  Gotta love a good carbo load before race day!

The half marathon started at 6am on February 22nd.  The weather was perfect-- 60 degrees at the start line and around 70 degrees when we finished.  The first 5 miles consisted of a large loop around Davis Island.  Afterwards we ran 4 straight miles next to the water only to....turn around to run back the way we came!  We all ran really well: Joe finished in 2:07, Amanda in 2:14, and I followed along in 2:17.  The race medal is AWESOME!  It's a big skeleton head with a movable jaw--so cool!  We cooled down, showered up, then met our cheering squad for breakfast in the hotel lobby.  After saying our good-byes to our beloved Wotton family, we drove to Orlando for our final night in Florida.  That afternoon we met Aunt Chris and Rebekah at Magic Kingdom!  It was a fun, quick introduction to the Disney World for our kids.  We rode the It's a Small World Ride, saw a 3D show, took a turn on the carousel, rode the river boat, had dinner, and finished our evening with the light parade.  Sophia and Tyler loved it!  Unfortunately, we did not stay for fireworks since we were all exhausted and we had a very early morning planned...

We flew out of Orlando early on February 23rd.  Our travels home were quick and uneventful, thankfully.  We spent the rest of the week catching up on sleep and laundry.  February flew by quickly and proved to be a lot of fun!
