Benscoter Family: March 2015

March brought us a few more snow storms and a couple illnesses. Not to worry though, nothing we (or our immune systems) couldn't handle! The first snow storm of the month was on March 5th which caused Sophia to have a snow day from preschool on March 6th. The kids loved stomping around in the snow and seeing their foot prints.

A week later, I took the kids to visit family Bristol, CT. We arrived at Aunt Monique, Uncle Scott, and Olivia's house the evening of March 13th. We spent the morning of March 14th in our pajamas while singing along to Frozen karaoke...sounds amazing, right?!? We went over to Memere and Pepere's house to eat lunch and play for afternoon. After several hours of lively play, Pepere was exhausted...he even put his head down on the kitchen table! We wore him out!! The kids were exhausted too so we left and caught quick naps before going to my cousin Christopher's house for dinner.

Christopher's house is AMAZING. He has done so much to renovate the place to include an awesome new kitchen..I am truly envious! The best part of the night, by far, was the company. We had dinner with Christopher, my cousin Kara, and her whole family. The kids played with dolls, hotwheels, and even played a few rounds of hide-and-seek. We all had such a wonderful time. On the morning of March 15th we went to mass, then brunch, and hit the road to come back home. It was a quick trip but definitely well worth it!

We had a very busy St. Patrick's day on March 17th. We started the day with an Early Intervention meeting for Tyler. Tyler will continue to work with his physical therapist two times a month until his 3rd birthday. At that time, Tyler will age out of the Early Intervention program. Later that morning we went to the local Elementary school to see if Tyler would qualify to get therapy services through their special education department. After an interdisciplinary team meeting it was determined that Tyler was doing too well to qualify for services through the school system. If he continues to have gross motor delays past his 3rd birthday we will certainly be able to pursue physical therapy on an outpatient basis. For our final appointment of the day, Sophia had a sports physical at the medical clinic. The doctor heard a heart murmur so she will get checked by a pediatric cardiologist in the middle of April. I am hoping and praying it is nothing serious. To celebrate making it through a busy day of appointments we went to our favorite restaurant (Chick-Fil-A) for dinner! We met up with Patrice and her boys-- all the kids enjoyed doing crafts and playing in the playground.

We got our second snow storm on March 20th...the first day of Spring. Yeah right, New Jersey! Not cool! I'm ready to be done with the white fluffy stuff! Give me sunshine and heat!

March 21st was spent celebrating my friend Molly and the up-coming birth of her daughter, Riley. We had a baby shower for her at Patrice's house and everything went flawlessly. The decorations were beautiful, the games were fun, and the food was delicious!

The cold weather never let up so on March 24th I took the kids to our favorite indoor playground: My Little Adventures. It was a fun way to burn off some energy and spend the morning with friends. As usual, Sophia loved climbing up the ladders and going down slides while Tyler was perfectly content playing with any and all of the balls he could find.

I woke up another morning in late March with snow on my car but I got tired of recording all of the snow we were getting in my planner. Maybe if I don't acknowledge it, it will no longer exist? Who knows. It is worth a shot!

Kid stuff this month~

Sophia-

1) While looking at pictures on my laptop she begins tapping the screen an asks me why my "iPuter" won't work

2) Sophia can write her name and Tyler's name without any help! Now we are working on learning how to write Mommy and Daddy :)

3) When she goes to complete a task she will often say, "That's just the best I can do."

Tyler-

1) He loves playing with planes, trains, and cars ALL the time. He likes making all the sounds, too ;)

2) Tyler has gotten really good at singing Old MacDonald

3) Tyler has graduated from weekly Speech Therapy appointments for his eating-- we will now see Ms. Heather just once a month. His oral motor skills are very impressive, we just need to work on getting him to eat more volume. He currently ingests approximately 30% of his daily caloric needs by mouth and gets pump fed the rest at night.
