This month started off with great news: Joe passed his initial check ride to become an aircraft commander in the C-17 on
April 2nd! He left for training in Oklahoma on
February 28th so we were anxious to get him back! But first he had a two day drive so...
We went to see the Easter Bunny at the mall on April 3rd! Sophia was enamored with the mall saying, "Mommy look! This place is beautiful!" We may have a future shopper in the family :) Later that evening, both Sophia and Tyler developed a nasty cough so we went over to the local ER and got a diagnosis of bronchitis for both kids. They both got breathing treatments, we loaded up on medicines, and they were both feeling better in a matter of days.
We participated in the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt on April 4th. It was a lot of fun but extremely cold and windy so we didn't stay out for too long. Nana and Papa arrived that afternoon and then Joe made it home to us that evening. All in all it was an exciting and wonderful day!
Easter Morning was April 5th. The kids found their Easter baskets and then we went to Mass. Immediately after mass there was another Easter egg hunt. Once we had our fill of candy, we went over to have brunch on base. Our morning was quite exciting so we all took great naps afterwards! We rounded out our Easter with dyeing of eggs and a delicious dinner at home.
Joe and I were lucky enough to have a quick get-away to Philadelphia (thanks Nana and Papa!) on April 6th. We checked in at the Embassy Suites then walked over to the Franklin Institute. The museum was so much fun! From there we walked to the LOVE sign and had to have our picture taken :) Afterwards we went to a local pub for dinner and finished our evening with Movie Monday at the Trochadoro Theater where we watched Wayne's World. The venue was so cool and we even won free tickets to the 90s cover band that was playing at the same venue later that week!
We headed back home on April 7th but not before we got a delicious brunch at Vincetown Diner. That evening Joe transitioned Tyler's crib into the toddler bed and he did fantastic! Grandma and Grandpa stopped through to see us on April 9th for a quick visit on their way to Florida. The kids loved having the attention of all of their grandparents at once! Then, on April 10th, we were lucky enough to spend the day with Aunt Karen! That evening, Joe took Sophia to a Daddy Daughter Dance while the rest of us enjoyed dinner at Texas Roadhouse. When Joe and Sophia got home from their date Sophia said, "Thanks for taking me to the dance, Daddy! I had so much fun!" They have such a special bond :)
Sadly, we had to say goodbye to Nana and Papa on April 11th. That evening Joe and I went back to Philadelphia with our friends Kristen and Nick to see a 90s cover band, The Bayside Tigers, play at the Trocadoro Theater. We all dressed up (thanks to Kristen and Nick's expansive 90s wardrobe) and had a blast!
Joe had the day off on April 14th so we took the kids to Color Me Mine to paint pottery. The kids really enjoyed the activity and we were able to make Mother's Day gifts for Grandma and Nana. We worked up quite an appetite with all of our hard work so we decided to grab lunch at Red Robin before heading home. Joe left for his buddy ride (his first of 3 rides to officially qualify him as an aircraft commander) on April 15th. Also on that day Sophia had a cardiology appointment since, during her last check up, the doctor noticed a faint murmur. After her EKG and Echo, we were told that her heart looks great and that her murmur is "innocent".
We try to stay busy while Daddy is gone so we took a trip to the Popcorn Zoo with the Rappas on April 16th. It was a nice day to feed the animals and to have a picnic lunch outside. Sophia was very enthusiastic when trying to toss her popcorn over the fence but Tyler was more interested in eating it all :) Joe's buddy ride didn't last too long and we were happy to have him back on April 18th.
